Explanation:
BL-13 is the shu point behind the lungs where the qi of the lungs comes from the interior to the outside of the body, and like all rear shu points, especially the organ zhang (Yin) has a strong action of regulating and strengthening related organs at the deepest level. BL-13 is the best point to treat all the organ disorders of the lungs. BL-13 is the point primarily to strengthen lung qi and nourish the lung yin. Lung qi deficiency can come from the baseline of previous lung disease deficiency, chronic disease, deep sadness, excessive desk work (especially bending), excessive physical work or lack of exercise. This is characterized by symptoms of a weak cough, difficulty breathing and asthma is getting worse when the activity, as well as shortness of breath and do not want to talk. According to Chinese medicine: "The lung is the gate of the voice." When the lung qi is lacking, it gets less power in the voice, speaking directly weakens the patient so it is not the intention of speaking.
According to Essential Questions: "All qi are under the control of the lungs." Since the lungs dominate the whole body qi, there will be signs of general qi deficiency such as fatigue, pale face, and weak pulse. In some cases BL-13 plus LU-9 taiyuan, CV-17 shanzhong, ST-36 zusanli, and BL-20 pishu. In chronic cases, lung qi deficiency causes asthma or a worse cough in winter, use intensive moxa during the summer.
Lung yin deficiency can result from prolonged lung qi deficiency, overwork, yin-eating fever, or deficiency of renal yin that fails to nourish and support the lung yin. It is characterized by a dry cough or asthma, bloody or stringy mucus, night sweats and mouth, throat and dry tongue. In more severe cases, there are tidal fever, steaming bone disorder, agitation deficiency and blood spit. In some of these cases, BL-13 plus BL-43 gaohuangshu, LU-9 taiyuan, BL-23 shenshu and CV-4 guanyuan.
BL-13 is also to treat lung atrophy and consumption, which indicates severe fatigue and depletion conditions. In lung atrophy, the lungs are said to wither and shrink, in the same way the limbs also appear to wither and shrink in an atrophic disorder. While consumption is widely associated with pulmonary tuberculosis.
The BL-13's action is not limited to strengthening and nourishing the lungs, but it is equally important to treat all forms of excess lung disease. Through its action of regulating lung qi and heat-clearing, BL-13 can be used to treat 1) heat exhaust struck the lungs, 2) moist heat retention or heat reactivity and, 3) hot toxins inhibit the lungs. Therefore BL-13 can treat full chest, chest pain, lung abscess, cough with phlegm, and difficulty breathing when lying down. In some cases, BL-13 plus LU-1 zhongfu, for example: the principle of combining your front point and rear shu point.

BL-13 is also an important point for treating pathogenic factors that stay at the level of taiyang or defensive. Plus point BL-12 fengmen, LI-4 heu, LU-7 lieque can be used to free and repel the binding pathogens in the exterior and result in fever shivering with cough, as well as aligning the qi of nutrition and qi defense (wei qi) in case of night sweats with fever shivers and does not like cold. According to Warp and Wood of Warm Febrile Diseases, "The lungs and heart are connected together, so that the lungs heat most easily enter the heart because of the ability to clean the excess heat / deficiency of the lungs and because of its great effect in collecting qi and ciao over, the BL-13 action extends to the heart.Various texts mention BL-13 for psychiatric disorders such as mania, walking angry, and even wanting to commit suicide.
The lungs and stomach have a special close relationship. Both have a strong action in the descending movement, while the lungs come from the middle ciao of the stomach area. Failure of gastric qi to move down due to deficiency or stagnation of food may impair lung function in a descending motion, causing cough and difficulty breathing, while failure of the lung qi to descend causes opposite gastric qi. So BL-13 needs to be stabbed for full flavor and no appetite, vomiting, vomiting foam, vomiting after meals and especially vomiting join cough.
A further important use of BL-13 is a lung disorder that causes pain in the upper back. In the case of children with severe lung qi deficiency, maybe even a back disorder occurs rounded (turtle's back). This condition refers to Essential Questions which states: "The back is the chest's home and when the back is bent and the shoulders are bent, the house falls into ruin."
Finally, according to Illustrated Appendices to the Classic of Categories, BL-13 is one of five dots (BL-13, BL-15 xinshu, BL-18 ganshu, BL-20 pishu, BL-23 shenshu) to remove heat from five organs zang
